Why is that necessary? I have various cards inc one which identifies me as a foster carer and only has my name and photo on it.
I am sure gov could come up with a similar card which is quite plain and doesn't shout disability or old person!

I'm sure they could. Convincing private business to accept such a card (which by the nature of not including any personal details will be highly suspectible in terms of fraud) is a whole different matter.

For a start - given the amount of screams of DISCRIMINATION, they'll likely be rather afraid of refusing a suspected forgery. So such a card will have to include personal data in order to provide security for the private company - which swings you straight back to the 'NO PERSONAL DETAILS' situation.

Of course, if the cards were forged, then you'd find that the companies would simply stop doing discounts.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

i didn't think you could register disabled any more?

There is NO such thing as registered disabled now, disability living allowance eligibility serves the same purpose so it was abolished some 10/11 years ago

Hi, there is no generallised disabilities register any longer, but some councils do have a local disabiities register - Brighton has an opt in scheme with a card which gives discounts on swimming and the cinema to disabled children and their siblings/carers.
I know of a couple of other councils that do similar - here we have a leisure access card which gives us discounts throughout the local district. We get it based on my getting carers allowance for our son.

As she is your foster daughter, can social services not provide you with a letter saying that she has special needs? Does she have an allowance from social services to help pay for days out?

I have photocopied my DlA letter but just the first page as that way it gives your basic details etc with the proof of receiving DLA but bank account details are omitted and of course its just one sheet in my diary and not 3.

My initial post was more as a general observation that in my opinion life would be much easier for those entitled to discounts if they could show a card rather than having to ask for discounts. TBH its not a big issue for us, its just something I have noticed and wondered what other people do and how they feel about it. I personally would find it embarassing asking and felt others may feel the same. Once I get my bus pass I wont have a problem showing it but I would pay if I had to ask for free travel when boarding the bus.
Others like GlasweJen obviously dont like the idea and I respect their views.
