I dislike aliEnRIK now...

Well not really! but since you did that little Pi test thing the other day I realised what was once my 'tower of power' now has a decidedly stooped back and is certainly near qualifying for a SAGA holiday.

It only seems like yesterday my KT400A and Athlon XP2800+ seemed like a supercomputer, but yesterday has come and gone too often.

I have a yearning for a new motherboard & CPU. Of course in a short time everything changes specification so its new motherboard, cpu, ram and possibly case. New boards only have 1 IDE port (2 drives) now so to keep my 2 hard drives and CDwriter I would have to stick an IDE card in, and reinstall Windows and all that software (actually possibly not XP can be pretty smart)

I know there are zillions of stuff around, but this little bundle looks quite appealing even just as its a one stop deal convenience

I only need basic onboard sound, not bothered about graphics as long as the screen lights up! (no gaming). Do a lot of storage, moving large amounts around and fair bit of video editing so MPEG encoding speed would be useful. Otherwise just usual low key stuff this PC does easily (its kept very clean and minimal)

any thoughts?

If your computer does every thing you need it to then why upgrade? Just upgrade when it finally gives up the ghost. The fact that yours can't calculate Pi to a million places in 15 seconds is irrelevant. The reality is that for the vast majority of time, your CPU is actually doing nothing. Why have 4 cores doing nothing? You don't play games so writing a letter and surfing the internet won't tax your current set up.

Component parts are cheap from https://www.ebuyer.com, so new motherboard, ram and processor <£150. Most motherboards still have IDE connections but as 1 tera drives are just £71 it might be better to transfer to SATA.

Yeah I seriously wouldn't waste your money on a new computer, just look after the one you've got :)

but his is bigger than mine... bwaaaa!!!!!!!

your probably right. It still feels fast and is 100% reliable (I am an engineer so it has a properly designed cooling strategy)

Perhaps best to wait until 'retirement' or unexpected passing away and start with a new whole box...

    perhaps...? LOL

Yeah ~ its nothing to be concerned about. Unless you NEED a faster computer then hold onto it. What size RAM does it hold?
