my other half has 2 different types of jobs and as he would only be a second driver on the insurance policy i wonder whether the type of job also makes a difference? thanks in advance.

Depends on the second job. If he works in the licenced trade (booze) then it could invalidate his insurance if OH does not declare it and has a drink related accident.

  • I sure for most companies there is a box for secondary employment.

You can be a "little" selective at how you describe the job. But i think leaving it out all together is asking for trouble.

Yes it does make a differance, and harks back to the Mum/Dad insuring childs car and putting them on as a driver to save money, when they closed that one they also closed the one where bad ocupation (in insurance eyes) insured the car in Wife/husbands name to save money. Unfortunatly this also catches people like you where they really are the second driver.
As Lemonade said you can sometimes be creative with a job discription which helps with premiums but could invalidate insurance if found out. For example if a dance instructor insures a car it costs £x but if they play music they become in insurance eyes a DJ (because you will probably be around drink ) and that costs £xxx so your options are to not mention the music bit and as long as you do not have an accident with a car full of speakers / amps ect you would PROBABLY get away with it. But you do risk being caught and insurance void, not good if you bump cars but disasterous if you hurt / kill someone.
Of course the above does not advocate incorect filling of insurance forms but just to help try and explain

  • Your insurance could be terminated for non disclosure !!
Different occupations and there risk are set by the underwriter as mentioned above anything connected to the licence trade ,professional sportsman ,journalists are considered more at risk
