Selling Restrictions - How Long?

I wondered if anyone can advise re selling restrictions as Ebay are treating the information like a Soviet spy.

Basically, Ebay have restricted what I can list and will not tell me how long for. It is so frustrating. Basically, I sold a Tiffany & Co item then when I tried to list another T & Co item Ebay told that my seller’s account was restricted for 30 days between high value branded items. Fair enough, I thought and so I sold a couple of items through my brother’s account, as I needed the money.

Anyway, I now have a couple of genuine Gucci bags to sell and the thirty days have passed so listed one only to find that the restriction is still in place. This is so bloody annoying. I e-mailed Ebay asking why I am still restricted and for how long. They have replied but are refusing to give me any decent information. They won’t tell me how long I am restricted for. They have advised that I list other stuff to get my sellers feedback ratings up. I have pointed out that most of what I have is high value, branded stuff and if I can’t sell that, then how can I get my sellers feedback increased? I don’t have much else to sell and anyway, I could be doing this for months and months.

They have now said that I should contact them in 90 days – which is no good to me as I need to sell the stuff now.

If I knew how long I was going to be restricted for, I could make a decision as to whether to wait, sell through my brothers account or even try selling through another source – but they won’t tell me! Incidentally I have 24 feedback both as a buyer and seller - all positive.

Anyone got any idea here?

You are a very low feedback user selling highly scammed items, to ebay that represents a risk especially due to some recent court cases abroad. I think with nothing else being sold through your account that you might have a long wait.

Can you find some other easier items to sell to get yourself some more feedback/history on ebay as that might help?

Maybe. I'll have a rummage, but to be honest have to decide if it is worth it. My Ebay account was only ever going to be fairly short term - once I have sold my surplus 'stuff' it will remain idle for a while (I am not one for hoarding stuff as a rule).

I think I might just use my brother's account.

I appreciate your quick response and I do understand why Ebay have taken this stance - it is really frustrating for an honest seller though. Plus, Paypal offer so much protection for the buyer it really does seem to be overkill on Ebay's part - especially the clock and dagger attitude.

Continuing this discussion (which I am mostly having by myself LOL), my brother has now also been restricted from selling these items. He has 1,700 feedback - all positive, has been Ebaying for years, has been Paypal verified for years and has been selling high value, easy to forge items for years....still they say no. He has appealed but I think I will be looking for an alternative to Ebay.

Ebay are being very careful about high end designer goods due to the recent court cases, so I'm not suprised they limit even high feedback users. However, even I would have to question how you can get so many items as to be restricted when these named goods are rarely available to anyone other than registered stockists.

AS for an alternative to ebay, you could try ebid which is the one other people on here sometimes use, but it only has a tiny percenatge of the traffic that ebay has.

  • the same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago.

i have a score of 2880 and when i listed some items, sold them then listed more, i couldnt as ebay restricted my account.

i sent them an email to say that i appreciate their concerns and that i only ever sell items i have personally bought so they couldnt be fake etc. also that i have spent a huge amount of money selling and buying on ebay and could they reconsider my restrictions

i then got a reply a couple of days later to say my restrictions have been lifted and i have no set limit to how much i sell

i suppose they are only covering themselves
Bank Charges = Cahoot bank account refunded £1640 asked for £1871 / Barclaycard refunded £480 asked for £480 Black Horse PPI refunded £797 asked for £797

Interesting to note that Ebay are allowing someone with NO feedback to sell a Gucci bag and another who only has less than 100 feedback to sell such an item.

EDIT: I have found loads of sellers with very little feedback, less than me and considerably less than my brother (one has less than 500 and only has 98.5% positive) but they are allowed to sell high value, high fraud risk items. I have e-mailed Ebay - again.

The answer to that is simple - I like good quality bags and jewellery. I have been 'collecting' them via birthday and Christmas presents for years. However, I never wore the Tiffany & Co jewellery (two items) and the Gucci bags were stored in the loft in bin bags. I then discovered I could sell on Ebay and here we are. My buying history, short as it is, demonstrates that I like good quality - for example Russell & Bromley bags, Monsoon clothes etc.

Named goods are available to anyone with the money to buy them - not merely registered stockists. I have 3 Gucci bags, 2 Radley bags, 1 Prada bag, 1 Russell & Bromley bag, I had 2 Gucci watches, I have 1 Omega watch, a hefty selection of Monsoon clothes....I am not a fraudster, merely someone who has lots of high value goods to sell.

I thought rather than start a new thread I would continue this one...

I'm having a similar problem but with a larger quantity of branded electrical items (£5-£10) each. I spoke to a guy on live chat who told me they could see no restrictions on my account...

However, I am still getting the same message, I just hope they get in touch soon, because I have a decent some of capital tied up in the stock.
