Edit - power management obviously didn't work, problems again last night. I did the DNS flush this morning so will see how that goes over the weekend.

If that doesn't make a difference, what would you suggest would be the next thing to try?

*bump* - looks like DNS flush didn't work.
Strange, put stuff on to download tonight, was happily going for c.3 hours, did some browsing, couple of games on Facebook, it went again - this time the download was going fine, could ping OK but couldn't browse on FF or IE.
    Restarted, everything fine again.
    Any further ideas?

    Thanks

Thanks - hadn't done that yet, appreciate the link. I've changed that as per the link, will see if that helps.
    Thanks

Hi there, Just a few suggestions to clean things up.

    1) Does this happen when you plug a cable into the router, This will rule out if this is a wireless issue

Ensure you have no proxy set up (not sure why it would be, but still worth ruling it out)

    2) In Firefox (Tools --> Options --> Advanced --> Network --> Settings) make sure that there is no proxy ticked.

    3) When you are next unable to browse try and ping google.co.uk if that fails try and ping 216.239.59.104 (Googles IP). If the domainname fails but IP works then this means its most likely some DNS related issue. I know you said it pings google fine but still worth trying again incase first time was a one off.

    4) Download HijackThis and ensure that there are no unknown BHO (Browser Help Objects) if there are delete them.

    5) Sounds odd but are you doing anything in particular when it cuts out? Turning on the Microwave/TV/Radio, I have even know Heating System (Boiler/Timer) to interfere with wireless networks.

    6) Maybe download another browser like sarafi as this issue could just be targeting IE/FF (i would suggest google chrome but it pretty much runs of IE's networking rules)

    Good Luck

    Thanks Duk

    Will try 1) later
    2)No proxy ticked.
3)Can ping fine (and in fact last night had a file still downloading happily but couldn't browse)
    5) No

    4) - In middle of doing this - is it just BHos with '(no name)' I want to delete or all of them?

    Cheers, really appreciate your help.

Well, You will see the BHO's Any you dont want you can delete. i.e. if you see an Adobe Acrobat one and dont want that affecting your browser, remove it. If you like post your hijackthis results here and i will have a look through the log for you :)
