2 Nights in Lake District in July - where to stay/what to see!

We have 2 nights stop over in the Lake District in July en route to Stranraer ferry (groan!). Need somewhere that will take all 5 of us together (2 adults, 11, 7 and 3 year old) as we dont want the children in a separate room. Does anyone have any recommendations - thought about Premier Inn in Kendal or somewhere like that, also any recommendations on what we MUST see as we only have a couple of days!
Thankyou MSE'ers - as always!:j

I'm going about the same time, so I'll be following this thread. I've never been before and it is the scenery and great photographs that draw me, that and the thought of a few good real ale pubs.
Sorry, can't help at all with where to stay.0 -
Muncaster Castle is a good day out, lovely castle and extensive gardens and the World Owl Trust. The birds of prey display is excellent.
South Lakes Wild Animal Park is good too, lions, tigers, giraffes and rhinos to name a few.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Have a look at the HAZELDENE
I have stayed there many times. The web cam is on at the moment, looks over Catbells. Plenty good pubs in the town, I like the Jenning's beers.
Try the Dog and Gun for a bar snack.

Premer Inn in Kendal won't be open by then, but there is a Travelodge on the by pass on the way into kendal.
Places to visit as said before South Lakes Wild Animal Park
Also you could do a lake cruise or steam train if you pick up a souther lake district top attractions leaflet you can get 2 for 1 to the aquarium.
the little ones would like duckys park farm, or the new greenlands farm village near carnforth.
you could go for a walk around tarn hows. or follow the route murphy the cat put on here a couple of years ago will try to find.....
Muncaster is good, and if you like owls and don't want to drive as far as muncaster you could visit furness owls in Barrow and do the dock museum for free after....The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
