Flight Cancelled - Can I get a full refund?

I was due to be on a Swiss flight to Moscow tomorrow but I have just been informed that my Visa has been refused by the Consulate & there is a stamp in my passport to prove it.

I once had a similar problem with a Lufthansa flight, but basically my Visa was just not ready on time. They refunded the taxes but not the fare, & told me that if my Visa had been refused I would have got the lot back.

The girl I have just spoken to at Swiss didn't seem to understand what I was saying & kept asking if I wanted to change the booking for another day - how can I do that if I don't have a Visa for the country!

Anyway, someone told me that it is standard in a refusal situation for the Airline to refund the full amount, as long as you can prove the refusal. I have just been told I will be charged taxes plus a fee.

Should I just accept this or can I claim the full amount as it was out of my control?

Thanks in advance!

Depends on Swissair's T&C for your particular ticket type - but I'd be surprised if they will refund more than the taxes.

I can only comment on the low fare airlines, and know that they will only refund the taxes. You really need to speak to Swiss to check their policy on the matter.

Why have you been refused entry?
    Gone ... or have I?

They refused my visa because apparently I have had too many previous visits for a tourist visa - and are saying I must apply for a business one.

I applied through a Visa Company, and they were as surprised as me it was refused.

Will a dirty great Refused stamp in my passport affect me in any other way?
