Buyer turned out not to be in the uk

I recently sold an item on ebay and the winning bidder turned out to be from ukraine and wanted the item shipped abroad. In my listing it clearly stated that i only sell to the uk. It made me so mad why didn't they email me first? surely they must have known that the postage would have been higher.
Any way we have sorted all that out between us now and we have agreed that i will not be posting it, but do ebay still take a fee? Do i have to report it as unpaid

If you set your seller preferences correctly you can stop them bidding in future:

Start from here to set buyer requirements to exclude overseas bidders or bidders with NPB strikes etc.

I have had this a few times recently. I only sell low price stuff, but sending overseas can be a pain. In the end I just asked for a higher postage than the UK and posted it.

I find that about 15% of my stuff gets questions from overseas buyers etc, it depends on what you are selling and if you want to rule them all out. I know its a pain, but once in a while may find you sell more.

Yes, you can report to ebay as it may be classed as an unpaid item.

I had the same problem. Had set preferences to stop bids outside UK but buyer was registered in UK. A major loophole that needs to be closed.

    Unless, of course, they pay...

  • Yeah, the fee is generated when the auction ends regardless of whether the buyer pays or not.

In that case, you could do a mutual cancellation of transaction.
You'll get your fees back, the buyer won't get an unpaid item strike.

    This.

Go to the little tab next to the item and 'Resolve a problem' and choose "I sold an item and want to cancel the transaction."

    :)
