Ebay - can I offer a 2nd chance to someone whilst I have filed a non paying bidder?

Hello there,

Am new to this thread. I have sold an item on ebay and the bidder has not paid. I have tried phoning them and emailing them through their ownemail address and through ebay but have had no replies. I have now filed a non paying bidder thingy against the buyer. Whilst this is going on can I offer one of the other bidders a '2nd chance offer' or do I have to wait for ebay to come back to me after 7 days?

You need to wait until the dispute closes. People have been caught out by buyers actually paying very late. If you tell the buyer you are offering it to someone else they may pay just to spite you. Then they can give a paypal reference number just get out of a strike. You would have to refund someone and possibly get a non performing seller thing opened against you. I think that covers most of the reasons to wait.

Thanks for your reply. Will wait the 7 days. Its just annoying cos its for a mobile phone which as time goes by the phone goes down in value because more are being sold etc. Nevermind will wait till next week to put the offer in. x

When selling phones make sure your seller preferences are set as tight as possible, especially to exclude overseas bidders and people with 2 or more strikes:

Start from here to set buyer requirements to exclude overseas bidders or bidders with NPB strikes etc.

Thanks for the link - I had also put in the listing that bidders should have a scoring of 10 and over and the winnign bidder was a newbie with a 0 feedback rating!

Doesn't matetr what you put in your listings, ebay do not allow you to block buyers just based on how long they have been registered.

Oh thanks for this. I have checked my ebay buyer requirements and I have got it set on dont let them bid if they have a strike etc. I have also managed to get hold of Ebay on a number I found on another thread 0208 0802105. I think it is via invitation but they asked for my user id and name etc and was able to clarify things that I can send the 2nd chance offer but must wait the 7 days to give the 'newbie' chance to respond and hopefully pay.

Thank soolin and maysie for your help. I have sold stuff on ebay before but not for about a year so brain is a bit rusty!! Now that I have found this ebay forum I shall be back as it was helpful. Thanks
