Bournemouth to Gatwick by Car?

The suggestion was M27, A27 then A29. What has Arundel, Angmering and Lancing got to do with it?
I agree, there are few roundabouts on the A27 at Chichester, but at the time the OP wants to travel this will not be a problem.
1: the A29 is a single carriageway road which passes through several villages, therefore you can't maintain a good, constant speed. The A23/M23 route is dual carriageway NSL, aside from the aforementioned slow parts. Why would you direct anyone along a single carriageway road through several villages when it offers no time saving against the main dual carriageways?
2: the A29 doesn't actually go to Gatwick airport. The A23 does.
My main objection was that the A23 would be a much slower route, something which still stands for the A29. Google maps suggests you'd be spending 25 minutes longer on the road - in fact, about the same extra time you'd spend if you went via the A23 - for the sake of saving 7 miles over the M25 route and 9 miles over the A23. And that doesn't take into account the fact that at 6am on the M3, you can safely go faster than the speed google maps uses to calculate average times. The same isn't true of the A29 route, therefore the real time saving of the M3 is likely to be even more.0 -

Having done the A29 route several times, typically early(ish) mornings (similar to the OP). I can vouch for its effectiveness. The roads are typically NSL (ie 60mph) apart from villages.
What is wrong with suggesting a single carriage way road? At 6 in the morning it isn't going to be busy. The OP was concerned that the M25 might be.
This is an alternative route that completely avoids the M25, which the OP was initially concerned with. And for the sake of saving a mere 7 miles the OP (like I say) will completely avoid the M25......0
