As I have a Virgin 2mb deal at ten pounds a month which runs out next month I phoned Virgin and was told the only low cost deal they would offer is their new s 2mb service at £14 a month on a twelve month contract which I thought would be o.k but in the answers I got on the forum people said look at the restrictions being placed on the Virgin s supply which I did and it means my service would soon quickly reach the limits Virgin are putting on the s supply, so I have had too go back to Virgin and take the 10mb supply at £15 a month for the first three months and then £20 per month for remainder of the contract.
The only other thing I managed to get from them is a new modem!! big deal as my old one is seven years old.
Please don't tell me to shop around as I've been happy with my cable broadband supply, and don't want to get into land line broadband.
It seems that Virgin are being very greedy in times of hardship.
The speed of your broadband isn't directly related to your bandwidth allowance and as far as I'm aware Virgin don't impose bandwidth limits on their cable service at all?0 -
Sounds like you haven't gone over then!
Often some ISP's have free usage from 23:00 till 07:00. So download the programme then and watch when it is convenient for you.
Check with your ISP though as they do differ and the hours differ also.
From Sky's website
If in any month you exceed your Usage Cap, we will notify you that you have done so.
If, in any subsequent month, your usage exceeds your Usage Cap again, then we may do one or more of the following things by notice.
(a) charge you fair and reasonable costs for your usage (and any reasonable administration costs) in excess of your Usage Cap;
(b) change your subscription to a Product with a higher Usage Cap, in which case we would also notify you of the new price you will be charged;
(c) suspend your use of Sky Broadband for the relevant month; or
(d) end your Contract in accordance with Condition 11 of your Contract;
If they havn't told you anything then you should be okay0 -
I only realised this today after getting an email frin bt telling me I was getitng close to my usage limit :eek:
I have had broadband from it started and used to be on bt highest with unlimited BB, about 18 months ago after a call to bt and them saying I used on between 6gb and 9gb over a 6 month period I changed to option 2 with 15gb usage allowance, email today said so far this month I had used 18GB !!!! I rnagt hem and they confirmed last month was 8gb so had doubled.
I know it has to be bbc iplayer as I have a habit of putting it on at night if nothing on telly, not anymore :rolleyes:
I ahve now instaleld a useage meter and will be keeping an eye on what ahs ben used and no more catchup tv
p.s.
It does acually mention iplayer and it's usage on bt site but who ever reads that ? lolTOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -
What the bbc have done is very clever.
They have transferred the technology costs of running iplayer from themselves to end users and to isps (which means back to end users).
There would have been no way they could have pushed though a licence fee increase to pay for it, yet we're paying for it anyway...0 -
I've got a friend who uses Sky as an ISP, he frequently goes over his limit, but he has never received any warning, or had any action taken.
I think Sky are pretty lenient on the limits.0 -

Yeah.. Theres a difference to going over the limit and taking the !!!!, and its the taking the !!!! they do stuff about.
The 3g companies are pretty bad though, especially 3. The limit is the limit and thats that.0 -

This is the first time I have heard of this whole feedback to the user for sites, I can imagine its playing havoc with lots of people usage bills just like yours, I agree, its very clever from the BBC iplayer, itvcatchup site to pass the bucks this way.0 -
I have just received an email from sky saying I have gone over my usage allowance. I am most concerned as I have 10 gb of usage and from checking my usage last months was 5gb to this month being over 14gb!!! They advised me that if it happens again within the next five months they will increase my package to unlimited and therefore charge me an extra £5 a month. I am concerned as a family of four using this broadband package for over a year now for surfing the net, online gaming, some streaming video usage how it can suddenly just almost treble to what we were using before. Is this a scam. There is no way of seeing a breakdown of usage with sky I have been advised I have to write to them and request it! Can anyone comment or advise me further on this, thanks.0
