I've made too much satay sauce for dinner and have enough left over for another meals worth. Can I freeze it?
It's a very basic recipe consisting of coconut milk, peanut butter, lemon juice (from a bottle, not fresh) and crushed cashew nuts.

    Whats your thoughts?
    Thanks in advance

I think I would try - if it is no good when defrosted at least you will know next time. I tend to freeze things to see how they come out - if it doesn't work I haven't really lost anything because I would have thrown it away anyway - and if it does work I know for future - does that make sense lol!!

    Hope that helps!

    It makes perfect sense!
I freeze just about all leftovers, but never frozen anything with coconut milk in, not sure how that will work.

I've made coconut ice cream from condensed milk and coconut milk.

I have frozen satay sauce and curries with coconut milk in, they have always been ok to defrost and reheat, I have never noticed any problems with them. hope this helps.

makes perfect sense - try it and see! I do see satay sauce included in meals in the freezer section - so don't see why homemade satay sauce wouldn't freeze well.

I reckon it will freeze fine - the natural fats in the nuts should freeze well. It may separate or go slightly grainy when it's defrosted but warming it up and giving it a good stir should fix that. Try it and see.
Perhaps worth making sure you have an alternative in the cupboard just in case it doesn't work? I.e. a jar of sauce that you can use if the frozen one doesn't work.

  • I need a really easy, safe proof recipe for "Sate sauce" I have the crunchy peanut butter, but am at a loss what else to add?

Well, it's hit and miss if you like what you get ..... but a really easy one is to take equal amounts (by volume) of any Peanut Butter, soy sauce and honey. Then just mix them together until smooth.

Of course, other recipes will have additional ingredients.... but that just makes it a "not so easy" sauce :)

At least with this one you can try it with a teaspoon of each to try the taste.

That one looks quite easy, and with the coconut milk, it'll be lovely and creamy.
