Sorry to hear that Bendix. I've started my list of the global and UK top hundred but it needs up dating. I've had some help and inspiration from Pastures New, the ultimate list maker!

no need to be sorry . the people who are leaving are deadwood anyway. Frankly, most of the firms got fat in the good times and brought on far too many lawyers and created ridiculous 'public-sector sounding' support roles. My firm, for example, has a role called Diversity Manager. God help us.

So this is just an ideal opportunity to pare back the rubbish, and keep growing.

Even the most beautiful rose bushes need pruning now and again.

One of the things about outsourcing parts of an organisation is you tend to lose the "family" feeling i.e. of all belonging to the same organisation and all working together.

I was talking to an electrician I used to work with, who has been transferred to a new company providing the same service to the parent company (if you understand) and he was explaining how in days of old he would have happily changed light bulbs in offices as he passed and if someone asked him to. Now he is not allowed to do that, even if he has a box full of lamps with him as a request has to be made, by email or phone, to get a job reference number. That is recorded at a central point, currently somewhere in the North of England, and his supervisor will be notified. Job is then allocated to one of the electricians and work is done. Light bulb changing has a 4 day turnaround apparently.

So the job gets done and everything is accountable and all expenditure and time is noted, but my goodness it doesn't half annoy him and the people who want light in their office.

It is not just money that makes the world go round, but we have been led by far too long by people who believe this to be true.
