Blacklisted address

Hi,

My daughter is trying to get a contract phone from Vodafone and has been refused because the previous tenant of her housing association was evicted, leaving bad debts. She is completely debt-free herself and has, up till now, had a PAYG phone with Vodafone. They have told her she needs to contact Experian but I read in one of the forum posts that it is a breach of the Dara Protection Act to blacklist an address. Does anyone know if this is correct and what she can do about it?

I'd be really grateful for any help you can give,

Thanks,

Linzi

You CANNOT blacklist an address - only individuals.

As Tozer says an address cannot eb blacklisted.

If she has no debt she may not have any anything on her credit file, it can be hard to get the first thing to get started. Is she on electrol role for her present address?

Lots of thinsg could have got her refused and she should get her credit report as suggested. She can get a 30 day free trial and have a look, as long as she remembers to cancel it again will cost her nothing.

If you do the 30 day free trial then cancel it the day it starts and you will still get access for 30 days but won't have to worry about closing it.

See more info here. 3 credit ref agencies can do the statutory reports for £2.

However, Vodaphone can make their own decision. In the same way that certain postcodes are seen as higher risks by banks so they wont post debit cards and credit cards to those addresses, Vodaphone can decide the same.

Nothing to do with Data protection, but statistics!

Is that what you/she thinks is the reason, is it an "official" reason from vodafone or is it a random theory by random shop employee at the store that they blurted out to justify "computer says no"?
