Anyone ever delivered/collected Christian Aid Envelopes?

I don't know if its the right section but I noticed the Church are looking for people to deliver and collect the envelopes for christian aid week, and was thinking of volunteering.

Has anyone on here ever done it? what was it like? I am quite shy I think so am worried it willl be awkward to ask for money. Or even worse I dont want shouting aT.

any feedback welcome!

My dad does it. He never seems to have any problems if they don't want to donate they just say no.

I was never shouted at, but I didn't much like asking for money ... Had to go back several times for people who were out, so it is quite a commitment, and you can't rely on being able to do it all during the day.

Thanks for the replies, I had hoped to do it while my kids are in school but then i'd miss most people! AndI guess it isnt wise to leave the envelope out.

Ah well, if they are still short of volunteers by next week I will arrange baby sitters or something:-)

I did this for several years until we moved, most people were fine about it. I always took along spare envelopes when collecting as people lost the envelopes and often asked for another. I also made a rule if someone was out I'd only go back once. And keep a list of where you have collected from - its surprising how easy it is to forget which number you need to go back to.

I have done it previously. As it is your first time ask if you can get somewhere local and keep it small one or two streets. Putting the envelopes out doesn't take long, most people are in about Friday tea time or Saturday morning after thatI wouldn't bother as the money has to be counted and banked.

            Good luck

Thanks for all the helpful replies, they are still short of 3 or 4 volunteers so looks like I will join them, it would be within 2 miles of my home so no chance of getting lost!
