Lost cheque after Akzo Nobel bought ICI

As title, a daft relative seems to have lost the cheque after their ICI shares were bought by Akzo Nobel back in Jan 2008. Certainly, it was never presented to their bank although they have the covering letter.
Anyhow, relative now had a letter from a company ProSearch, working for the Registrars Equiniti, offering to replace the cheque for a fee of 12.5% of the value!
Surely it should be possible to get another cheque for a lot less in fees?

how much was the cheque for ?
if £100, then 12.5% seems reasonable
if £100,000 unreasonable0 -
Somewhere about £40000

I think you'll find that ProSearch aren't working for the registrars at all. Talk to the registrars directly.0
