Windows ME internet connection

I have a PC running window ME and have recently formatted the hard disk back to factory settings.
I am now unable to connect to the internet – when I open explorer 5.50 the screen is just blank.
I have reinstalled the drivers for the ethernet card and the set up is physically connected to router as previously when I could connect. Until I formatted I was able to connect to the internet so the problem must be software/settings related.
I have tried adding a new connection through internet properties > connections > add new connection but this only allows me to select the dial up modem, not the ethernet card.
Any ideas on how to add the ethernet card to internet connections. Or should I be doing something else to connect?
Thanks

sounds like you havent installed the network card drivers.
ot but windows ME is stupidly old and was rubbish new, if i recall firefox is droping support for it so might be time to start looking at windows xp or a linux distro.0 -
You are only the second person I know with Win ME, get rid of! Oh, sorry I don't support that.0

Run winipcfg, and see if you have an ip address
In IE, check the connection settings, should be set to never dial a connection
Firefox v2 works on ME0 -
Thanks all for replies. I have reinstalled drivers and all is OK now.
PS - the ME set up is my old PC that is useful when 2 of us want to use internet at same time.0
