Hi all,
I've got roughly 200K to invest but i'm not sure what to invest in
. ideally i want to invest the money and generate extra income from it. I've thought about buying a house and renting it but at the moment with house prices falling its probably not a great idea. Anyone got any suggestions as what to do?
Any help is much appreciated!

With that kind of money your best course of action would be to see an IFA.0

do you mean letting it? If so, what rental yield do you think you would get (and after tax)?Anyone got any suggestions as what to do?
You are obviously happy taking some risks so you have about 50,000 options available to you on the criteria you have given so far. You are going to have to narrow it down more for discussions on what can be eliminated or considered.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Thanks,
I dont really want to take too much of a risk. I just want to invest the money where i can get a good return. But interest rates as so low at the moment I wouldn't get much too much in return. I've thought about seeing a FI but i'm not sure how what they would advise as things are so unstable and if they give wrong advise would they not become liable?
I think I'll go and see a FI and see what options they recommends

James138,
With that kind of money I would stay well clear of an IFA. They put the ifa in M@fia in my opinion.
How old (be vague as you want) are you?
Were is the money now? (again be as vague as you want)
Apart from income what other plans do you have for the future?
Take care.0 -

Make sure you see an Independent Financial Adviser and not a tied adviser from a bank.
Yes they would be liable if they gave unsuitable advice so they will do a full factfind to find out your requirements and attitude to risk.0 -
The money is for my mum who is approaching retirement age, she's got most of the money when my her husband (my dad) died and I want it provide and extra surce of income for her. The money is currently in several bank account before we decide what to do with it. I want her to invest wisely and not fritter away the money. At the moment she a small amount of income, but i want her to to use the well. Hope this is enough info!

Is your mum in good health? (not meaning to sound rude or anything! Sorry if its a bit personal) i.e. is she likely to live for another 20 years?
Want to make sure the right amount of money is used for the approximate amount of time she is going to use it for.
It could well be wise to go and see an IFA. But yes as you said, their guess is an educated one, they could lose money of yours, no-one has a crystal ball. Best thing is to choose one that you can trust. Do you have any friends who know of any they recommend? Ask around.0 -

I suppose that in your view he'd do better trying to learn the entire business of investing to sort out his mum's finances with no protection against unsuitable advice?
Strikes me as a silly way to do it. Still.I am a Chartered Financial Planner
