Sold our flat, what now?

Hi, My wife and I have sold our flat which is good. What are the steps that we should be taking now? I know we have to find a solicitor but we haven't found a house to buy yet. Also how long is it resonable to stay here while we are looking, There isn't much we like on the market at the moment but know we can't keep the buyer hanging on forever. (we only sold a week ago). Should we be getting qoutes from solititors before we know the cost of our new house? or wait till we find one?

    You haven't sold yet have you? You have "accepted an offer" - sounds odd, but not good to get confused.

    You need a solicitor to progress the sale (regardless of what you buy): so, if you are serious about selling, go and find one now.

    If there is nothing that you are vaguely interested in, then you need to make a decision really: what are you prepared to do? Most buyers will have SOME flexibility, but they are not prepared to be completely open ended... are you prepared to rent, if you cannot find someting to buy in the next couple of months? (beware, NOT much is coming onto the market at the moment...)

    Get a solicitor. Ring round for several quotes locally. Get it sold. If you can't find somewhere then consider renting.

    Yes!

    Buyers are in fairly strong position at the moment so you can't afford to wind them up by not being clear what you are doing. Either you have to find something to buy fairly quickly, or be prepared to complete the sale and move out and rent or stay with friends/family while you look.
