What to do now?

Hi! I am a newbie here and am posting for the 1st time in desperation.
I am a Duel fuel user with British Gas being the provider. This was the arrangement when I moved here in Dec 2003 and I just continued this. Never had the courage to switch providers.
When the fixing offers were 1st introduced (circa 2004?), I THOUGHT I was fixing both.
I even got a letter about 6 months ago saying something like "you've done well to fix till 2007, now would U like to fix to "2010". I thought 5 yrs was a long time to fix, and dumped the letter. With hindsight, and the 22% increases since, it wasn't one of my cleverest moves.
Anyway, was AMAZED to see my Gas mthly direct debit increase 50% (£30 to £45) this month! I was confused.......
a) wasn't I fixed and
b) Even if I wasn't fixed - wasn't the increase 22%?
I called them up right after work, and stayed on the phone listening to their garbage for 12 mins, and put the phone down. Tried again at 22:30, and got thru straight away (there's a lesson there.....)
After a long while, the guy who answered informed me
a) only my electricity was fixed and
b) my DD was calculated incorrectly....for the remaining 11 mths this yr my DD will be £32....ie a 7% rise on my original DD.
I mentioned that, "why would I be offered to fix till 2010" if I wasn't on fixed Gas and Electricity. He asked me to find the letter, and call back with the "ref offer code" on the letter. Erm, I don't have this now.
Any1 out there with suggestions on what I do now? Has anyone been similarly fobbed off? Do I fight British Gas, or just switch? (My electricity is fixed till 2007, and so I will prob have to pay a £30 admin fee to be let loose).
Any suggestions most welcomed....and Thank You all in advance!
Regards,
chandwpl

Have you got any original paperwork re: fixing, if not it will be difficult to argue. Might be worth writing to head office expressing your disappointment and saying that you are considering going elsewhere - see what they come back with??
Hope this helps!"...So...we've got a drop off, a double-cross, an ambush and then what?...then they shot a tramp..." :rotfl: [High Heels and Low Lifes]0 -
Hi Thanks for the reply. No, no paperwork at all. The original fix was done over the phone. I will write to HQ. Many thanks!0
