Does anyone know how to block sites on a pc? Ive tried to block sites using control panel and using content advisor and even under privacy tab, blocking the sites that way, and it still allows me to enter the sites.... why is this? One way i have found works with facebook is to block cookies, is this a valid way of blocking other sites i wanna block? I cant understand why just going into content advisor and blocking access to a site, still lets you in! I have restarted the comp afterwards aswell, and still allows access...im cofuzzled.

Block it using your router's admin page e.g. http://192.168.1.1 or maybe http://192.168.0.1. There's generally a section called something like 'Content Filtering'. Add the URL here. Also change the default admin/password to the router's admin page.
With most things there are ways of getting around it but it's one way to at least deter viewing the site(s).0 -
Woo!
Yeah +1 for K9 here. It's a very good program for blocking sites and all sorts0 -
Thanks for your replies, but why does my pc let me access these sites that ive tried to block using the control panel? Its so frustrating and i dont understand! lol
Im sorry but i have no idea what a routers admin is.....lol
Is there any way of just blocking access using control panel instead of downloading a program to do it? I wanted to avoid using any more software.0 -

The router admin page is simply the equivalent of a control panel. It's where you go to carry out all admin related tasks e.g. setup wireless acess for a router, reset the router, block specifc websites.
I'd recommend K9 too if you don't think this is appropriate.0 -
The problem is, anyone who particularly wants to get round these things can do quite easily.
The best approach, as always, is not to restrict, but to trust and educate the person you'd rather didn't do these things. If someone can't be trusted not to go on sites you've told them not to, perhaps they shouldn't be allowed internet access at all, or at least not unsupervised access. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
K9 will block your facebook and what not as they come under social networking (you will have to make an exception to this site forums.moneysavingexpert.com )
K9 will also block proxies and related proxy things such as make your own proxy (proxies let you get round filters)
K9 is password protected and cant be uninstalled properly without the password0
