Which Hotel in Manchester

I'm gong to be in Manchester midweek in May to visit my daughter at Uni and was looking for a decent but reasonable hotel not far from the station and city centre.

I found two that I thought are good value for money:

The Atrium - £40 for studio only with Quidco and discount code
Ramada Piccadilly - £62 for room including brkfst

I feel safe with Ramada as it's a well known chain, but the Atrium price is great.

Anyone from Manchester or who has been to either hotel let me know how they compare?

Thanks...:)

Mixed but mainly good reviews for the Atrium. I find Ramada hotels to be of very poor quality.

I like the Lowry, but you're not going to get that for £50 (please let me know if you do! ;) ).
    Gone ... or have I?

Thanks... at least I know what I'm aiming for now.
I'll check out the Hilton, sturll...
You've set me a challenge dmg24 lol - will let you know if I get anywhere near the £50 for the Lowry!

The Ramada in Manchester is a hole, avoid. The Palace is not bad. Also avoid the Britannia. Thistle OK as is the Novotel and Best Western Princess on Portland

Just checked out the first 2 hotels mentioned.

The Hilton is not available and the Lowry is way over budget at £187!

    Nowhere near £50!!

The Macdonald hotel is very nice and right next to Piccadilly station and the University - but it won't be £50 - closer to £90. However it was well worth it when we stayed there last year - the rooms are huge and very comfortable.

For £50 you will be looking at a lower grade accomodation or farther out (i.e. Salford) where you'll have to take public transport.

Try looking here. The Days Inn is part of the University Conference Centre and is very convenient for the Uni. About 5-10 minutes walk to the main shopping areas.

Also there are quite a few Premier Inns around the city. There is one near the Bridgewater Hall, and another on Portland Street. Think they are £67 approx.

I work at Manchester University so if you need to know anything, just ask and I will try to help.
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you

I'd recommend the Premier Inn on Portland Street. Stayed there a few times now with my OH - great central location only a few mins from Piccaddilly Station and the shops and reasonably priced.
  • Stayed at the Atrium a couple of years ago and would recommend it - especially for £40 which seems like a fantastic price.

The location is pretty central. No breakfast available as they're more like mini apartments but there's plenty of cafe's close by where you can go so don't let that put you off.
