    http://www.extractnow.com/

ExtractNow is a cool utility that allows you to extract files quickly and easily.
Supported File Types: ZIP, RAR, ISO, BIN, IMG, IMA, IMZ, JAR, GZ, SIT.

think Winrar now has a 40 day limit and some functions disabled

good point, just checked mine and got 9 days left to buy a license.
  • Thanks Browntoa and s_g

Just before I saw your replies I found a prog called NewzToolz (!) and used it to unzip my file successully. That ExtractNow looks a much more versatile tool though. I had already had a look at WinRar but was put off by the 40 day limit. Whilst searching I 've come across loads of warnings about nasties lurking in .rar files than can bypass the usual security. Is it something to worry about overmuch?

    Thanks again.

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.

Never have an problems with winrar, as long as you have a decent anti virus like AVG.

The program will still run after the 40 day limit you just get an annoying welcome message.

Almost forget with rar files even older version of the program may not open recently compressed rar files with the last build and thus can experince problem when decompressing, so I assume you may experince problem with program that do various formats.

I try and use the last build of winrar, that way you dont have the problems.
