Definition of delay on travel ins

I was delayed 4hrs 20 mins on flight departure.
However the arrival delay was 3hrs 55 mins (flight was faster than published times).

Which one applies for travel insurance purposes?
I can't find a definition in my policy.

Objectively I'd say it as the arrival delay rather than the departure delay.
But guess where my entitlements starts - yes 4 hrs.

I'm going to put the claim in anyway as I have a good company, so we'll see what happens but I thought it was an interesting discuss point.

    usually with travel insurance a delay must be over 12 hrs to make a claim. (check your small print)
    you will need astatement from the airline as well which will state your scheduled departure and arrival times and actual times od departure and arrival.

    I've checked the policy and it says £50 after 4 hours.
    This is a business travel policy (extended for holidays) so it's probably superior to bog standard holiday insurance.

    Yes I have got a letter from the airline.
    But which difference applies?
    Actually flight times are generally about 30 minutes less than published times (as they allow for boarding, taxiing etc,).
    So which applies the departure delay or the arrival delay?
    As I know they are a good company they might not quibble over 5 minutes anyway.

    Although not defined, doesn't your policy have a separate section covering "delay"?

    In that it normally refers to the benefit being payable after the "first" x hours of delay. You first experienced the delay at your departure airport.

    "If the outward or return departure of the aircraft...............................is delayed for at lest 4 hours from the departure time indicated................"

    Excellent.
    If it's departure time, then we have a valid claim.
    I have put down the delay at 4hrs 20mins.
