Wandering into the world of online gaming

Hi guys

I've just about got round the the world of on-line gaming.
I've installed Runes of Magic but it won't play as the minimum spec is above my machine (which is about 5 years old).
Here's the first bit of the DXDIAG report I was asked to do on the ROM website:-

Anyone any recommendations for a decent, free MMORPG that would be easy for a novice?

I like the look of World of Warcraft but that involves a subscription.

you've got a better spec pc than mine, just, you should be able to play games even on min spec, yeah it will stutter a little at time, but shoudl still be able to play them, as for online gaming, hmm I'm not a lover of paying a monthly sub for a game, works out bloody expensive, even the free one's, well they say its free, but once you get into the game, you'll prob have to buy something with real money to get further into the game

ROM would not play at all - it just crashed on startup. According to the ROM forums, it's because I don't have the min spec.

This is the minimum requirements as per the RoM website:

You are little off. What graphics card do you have?

It's an ATI Radeon 9250.

Looks like you'll have to try something else.

Unfortunately I can't recommend any as I don't play MMORPG's

You could try mmorpg.com for some ideas. They have forums, so you could ask for lower spec games.

Hi guys,

Thought I'd resurrect this thread instead of starting a new one.
Does anyone have any ideas if a game similar to "Elite" on the Amiga (I'm showing my age now! ) exists to play online?

I'm looking for something that has trading as well as fighting NPC's in it.

Any recommendations?

If something crashes on startup its MUCH more likely to be a graphics driver problem.
Go to the manufacturers (ATI/Nvidia) site and download the latest.
