We will be traveling to London for the day later this month with a 3 1/2 year old and will probably have the afternoon to spare. We are going to be in the Trafalgar Sq area in the morning, anybody got any ideas on nearby places/events to go to that would interest adults and kids?

If your in trafalgar square then your no more than 5 minutes away from the west end so youve got piccadily circus close and covent garden, which is always worth a mooch around and you can spend ages watching the street entertainers for nowt, or take a stroll up regents street and pop into hamleys. Alternatively walk down to the embankment and walk along there and see the houses of pariliament and the london eye, or pop down whitehall and see 10 downing street.
Hope you all have a great time in the big smoke
All the best

National gallery is in Trafalgar Square, dry and I think free. Or up Regent Street to Hamleys and universal studios shop.0

Science Museum or Natural History Museum, both free and plenty to interest adults and kids0

Covent Garden often has some type of activity going on to keep you amused, even if it is just the dressed up artists who stand still for hours!!
You could go to the science museum (it is free I think!!), there are things to do for all ages there, your little one should probably love it!
Buy a ticket that covers unlimited travel on all transport and they will love trying out tubes and buses and maybe even an overland as well?
Go to Hamleys and let the tantrums begin!0 -
When I was a child in London (many, many years ago) I used to love to ride on the boats on the Thames.
I know that there are tickets that you can buy that cover unlimited travel on the tubes that include some river boats. Maybe you could get one of these and see the tower from the Thames.
Sorry, but I don't know the details of the tickets.0 -
I would go to the Natural History museum, we went there in Oct & my kids just loved it. Think your child might be a little too young for the science museum but there is a room there for little children. What ever you decide I'm sure you'll have a fab time
Shaz xx

British Museum is fairly close and free. They have kids explorers packs. If weather is good, a mooch around Trafalger Square, The Thames and Covent Garden is hard to beat. Boat Trip down the Thames or a round trip. CHeck out the boat section on the Transport for London site www.tfl.gov.uk - for the none-rip-off ones.0
