usb2 tends to be faster than firewire but firewire tends to be more consistent with the transfers thats why ppl recommend using firewire for editing.0

I know that older BIOS may only allow you to see a smaller amount of big hard drives if they are plugged in to an internal IDE cable.
Are these external USB drives similarly constrained? Hopefully the firmware support for the full disk size would be in the external unit itself rather than relying on the PC's BIOS.0 -

PACKARD BELL
STORE AND SAVE
EXTERNAL 400GB HARD DRIVE
Currys Price
£229.99 !! :T
Would Curry's pricematch PC World price if the PC World store is about 40 miles away?
Same price in Dixons.
Makes me think this is a price error, as it would cost more for an internal drive of this size.
A few weeks ago I posted a similar deal on an external HDD from PCWorld but they corrected it less than a day later.0 -
Listed as £149.99 on the Packard Bell site. Also been on PCWorld site for some time, I came across this last week so can't be an error.

It uses 400Gb Barracuda 7200.8 HDD (model :ST3400832A), which is sold at Dabs for £140.

The cheapest USB2/Firewire casing is around £10 so it is a good deal but not a steal.

I'm currently using a Pinnicle mediacenter connected to my PC via a cat5 lead.
Does anyone know if I'd be able to make the mediacenter run files on an external hard drive??0 -
The original price is £139.99 but you can get a 5% discount using a code posted on the voucher board... see here... http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=1756904#post1756904
which will give you £6.99 off the price... The delivery charge is £4.99 so you save £2... I also saw on the hotukdeals site that you can get money back through quidco but I have no idea what they are on about but it may mean something to someone here??
check this out and it explains more about the quidco thing (altho the original price is wrong at £129.99)....
http://www.hotukdeals.com/Category15-All.phtml
This should bring the price down to about £131 delivered (if you do the discount and the quidco thing together)
I think.......
p.s I bought one today at £139.99 as I reserved online and collected in store and its a lovely lil thing!
p.p.s Its a USB 2 and fast enough for me!Official DFW Nerd 210
