Thought this was a good deal from PC World External 400Gb hard disk

Also saw a 300Gb one for under £100 somewhere but can not for the life of me find it again.

That's very good value I must say!0

That seems to be an unbeatable price.
You can pay more than that just for an internal 400GB drive.0 -
That was probably the amazon one. I heard that they've put a fiver on the price.IvanOpinion wrote:

This Seagate is 250GB for a shade under £90:

My personal experience of Ebuyer (a Sheffield outfit) has only been good, though I read that others have more variable experiences.
My personal experience of PC world has not been so good.
Segated is a good make though.0 -
The problem with eBuyer and others is the cost of postage ... especially when off shore (adds about £20 to the cost)
A quick technical note remember that these big drives may only format to approximately 131Gb. If this happens you may need a piece of software, a new hard disk controller or better still simply to paritition the drive.

just thought I point this out....
Now that is a statement and a half. This means that the IO of the disk is faster than USB2 to such an extend as to slow down video editing.
Personally I think it is a cracking dealNo links in signatures please.0 -
PC World and Curry's are the same company, aren't they? Don't have a PC World near me, so checked Curry's and found
PACKARD BELL
STORE AND SAVE
EXTERNAL 400GB HARD DRIVE
Currys Price
£229.99 !! :T
Would Curry's pricematch PC World price if the PC World store is about 40 miles away?Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
"low speed" USB device transfers data at 1.5 megabits per second.
"full speed" USB device transfers data at 12 megabits per second.
"high speed" USB device transfers data at 480 megabits per second.
Firewire =400 megabits per second.
Make sure it a USB-2 High Speed device to get the full speed, which would make it faster than Firewire.0
