    Thanks for all the replies. Mine is not an EU licence (from a designated country*), but eligible for an exchange for UK licence on the condition that I must surrender my current licence.


    *Australia, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Falkland Islands, Faroe Islands*, Hong Kong, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, Republic of Korea*, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland and Zimbabwe.

    What was wrong about what 'dacouch' posted? It's either three years after residence or until the age of 70, whichever is longer.

    Sorry for being picky. I freely acknowledge that I was totally wrong and Dacouch was right. I meant no offence but my words were poorly chosen. Ironically what I posted was the advice I was given by the DVLA.
