Wireless printer, no router - how do I print?

I've got a netbook that is wireless enabled. I've just got a wireless printer but the first page of the instructions say it needs a router to work. I don't have one as I use mobile broadband to conect to the internet. The printer is this one - an Epson SX600FW. Can anyone help?

Via a standard USB lead? The printer has a USB port, the netbook has a USB port - connect the two, select Add Printer and away you go?
[Sorry if that sounds a bit facetious, but it would work... I think you will need both a wireless LAN adaptor in your netbook as well as the wireless broadband one to connect to the printer wirelessly. You may already have both, but that depends on make and model of netbook]0 -

Thanks for the quick reply.
I really want to be able to print stuff upstairs out of the way while using my netbook downstairs. I don't want to take the printer out of the box & start using a usb cable etc until I know if it's possible to use the printer wirelessly.
I don't really want to spend much more money to get it all working wirelessly but will if there is a simple solution as the printer has a great spec for my needs and I don't really want to return it.
As far as I know my netbook has got "a/g" wireless "stuff" (I'm not very techy!) The printer supports "a/g" but i'm not sure how to connect the 2 up.0 -
I think you'll find you'll need the router! But that's just what my logic tells me!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

Hi
I'd check the instructions. Generally speaking, you would def. need a router normally. However, according to the instruction book for my HP wireless printer, I can connect it wirelessly direct to a wireless enabled pc/laptop, without a router. I've not had the need to try it as I've got a router, but yours may be the same??
Hope this helps....0 -
According to the Online User Guide, you can connect this printer direct to your pc/laptop wirelessly. Click on networking then Confirming Your Network Environment then Connecting Your Printer to the Network then scroll down to the section Wireless network (Ad Hoc mode) and follow the instructions there.
You might find it easier reading the manual that came with the printer though.0 -

Thank you so much for finding that out for me. The booklet about the wireless set up only has a couple of pages in English and doesn't cover my situation. I've downloaded the online booklet for now & as I don't understand all the terms I'll have a read later on. I've also downloaded the drivers as I don't have a cd drive yet. Hopefully I'll get the printer out of its box later on & set it up.
Question, if I print wirelessly directly from a netbook without a router, could my printouts end up on my neighbours printer? I know there are about 4 or 5 wireless networks within range of my house. Or will the set up sort that out?
(I'm a bit clueless about all this - you can probably tell!)0 -
No, if it allows setting up in Ad-hoc mode (netbooks connects directly to printer wirelessly) then you would print as normal and select the wireless printer to print to (if this is the only printer set up then it will automatically be the default).0

I have a similar problem, with one of these Epson wireless printers, but don't have the CD so can't get the software that the manual talks you through! Apparently for legal reasons I can't download it from their site, according to the chat adviser. Anyone got any idea how to connect one wirelessly when you can't enter the network details and key?0

I have one of these and even with a router, found getting it connected a bit of a nightmare. But you should be able to do it without one. As previously posted, try the ad-hoc mode.
One question (both for you, and anyone else that has this printer):
When you switch the printer off, do you get the following message on the LCD display: "saved fax data/received data will be deleted. Continue?"
As I don't use the fax, having to hit "yes" and then "ok", means this is a bit of a long winded way of turning it off! Is there any way to bypass it???0
