How do you find out...

what developments are planned for an area?
I've seen a great property that backs onto farmland, but our area is undergoing a lot of house building at the moment. We've had our view taken from us already in our current house. I know there are no guarantees regarding as yet unscheduled development, but is there a way of finding out what's already planned?

    Good question,

The local searches that will be carried out by your solictor will only show planned developments immediately adjacent to the property for which the search is carried out.

I would look in the local council planning department, as they will have public files on all planned developments, both submitted and approved.

  • We were all geared up to put in an offer on a house we loved until I was out with the dog checking out local walks over the fields nearby and noticed a planning application notice pinned to a lampost - further in-depth investigation showed almost the entirety of the fields where we were planning to walk would soon be lying under 490 new builds.

We've subsequently looked at a lot of council's local plans for planning for each house we've been interested in, and it's shocking how much green belt is getting re-designated as development land.

    Found this website's quite helpful
