Do those 'magic' doormats work?

I've seen some doormats in the past in Wilko's that claimed to 'grab' all the dirt etc. (Can't remember if they were JML ones or not?). They were quite expensive, smallest about £10, medium about £15.

As I've just had some laminate fitted I need some new mats - especially to stop the little bits of grit being walked in by visitors (don't really want to insist on people removing their shoes).

Does anyone know if these mats actually work as promised? If so, where is the cheapest place to buy. If not, anyone got any alternative mat suggestions please?

Thanks.

i got mine from ideal world and they do work , i have a light bamboo floor and was cleaning it every 5 mins untill i got these.
  • As with most things you can ask a question and get completely different answers.

I have to say that the mat i bought, think it was JML from Woolies (those were the days) was no use whatsoever.

There will be others along soon to disagree, it is just my opinion.

I bought one from Ideal World too, many years back - put it by the back door - boy did it work well, trapping dirt from wellingtons & from the dog's paws.

Not sure if the JML ones are as good, sorry.

Thank you for the replies so far.

Re: the Ideal World ones, does anyone have anymore detailed info on these, eg. name of product, reference no, price etc.

    Thanks.

I got a couple of them from Ideal World a good while back, they're called Magimat. Doesn't look like Ideal World are doing them at the moment. If you google on that you can come up with some other stockists.

I've just seen some other ones called Washamat which look very similar, does anyone have this type, as I'm looking to buy some more for our new house.

JML ones are good - I am absolutely paranoid about any dirt in my hallway infecting the cream carpets in my living room but feel confident with this mat at the threshold.

Like most things, you get what you pay for and the ones you can get for £10 or £15 are not nearly as good as the more expensive ones.

I bought my DD one of the JML ones for inside her back door (she's a childminder and has a large volume of traffic there) and frankly, it was useless. They rely on people actually standing there and wiping their feet before moving onto the floor, which is not what everyone does.

I eventually bought a Magimat and wow, what a difference - both in price and quality. They work brilliantly at removing wet or dirt from the shoes, just by placing your feet on them.......no wiping necessary!

The only advice I would give is to make sure that you get one big enough so that everyone who walks over it can take two steps before getting onto the floor you want to keep clean. That way, even if they're not thinking what they're doing, the mat can do it's work.

IMO it's money well spent http://www.magimat.co.uk/
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Yes, the right ones definitely work! But do make sure they are made of only cotton fibre, not a mix - I remember being told that was the secret to having one that actually traps the dirt.

We have Turtle mats (http://www.turtlemat.co.uk/) and they have been through the washing machine no end of times and still look like new. Highly recommended - especially when they have their online sale!
