Panasonic TV - should I pay extra for 5 years cover from Ritcher sounds?

Hello all,

I am about to buy this tv from Ritcher sounds. The same tv costs £1199 at John Lewis. The difference is, at JL you get 5 years warranty automatically. To get 5 years at Ritcher sounds would cost an extra £97.95 - so it is still cheaper than at JL by over £100.

My question is - should I pay and get the extra cover for 5 years? Is it likely they will pay out if anything happened or am I throwing money away. I never usually get the extra cover on things but when it is a big expense is it worth it?

Thanks

    Good choice of tv

hmmm. Richer sounds guarantees are very good actually.
BUT ~ with the current economic climate, theres no guarantee that richer sounds will be around in 5 years time!

This was my thought exactly! Why pay for something which may not be here is 5 years. It should be but.......who would have thought RBS would be brought to it's knees 5 years ago!

    What are others thoughts?

For the sake of £98 for five years (£19.60/year), I would just for peace of mind.

Is the RS insurance really sound ??(loads of small print)

Dom And Gen would charge you around £249.99 for additional 4 years!!! So a good deal if ok. (TV valued £751 to £1000)

Do Richer Sounds not still do that guarantee where if you don't claim within the period and take the receipt back within 30 days of the cover ending, you get your money back?

I got three years cover on a Hifi seperates a few years ago took the receipt got all the money back at the end of the period!

Why not get John Lewis to price match Richer Sounds?
You will get the tv from JL at RS's price and get JL's 5 year guarantee.
    I did this recently.

Hi I have just bought a Plasma from John lewis who price matched the same tv from richer sounds !!Without the 5 year warranty so I got the tv for the lower price with JL 5 year warranty included:jSO either Email JL and ask them to price match or go into the store and ask as long as RS have the item in stock they will match the price :D All the best Leachy

The deal you had was the 5-year supercare which excludes TVs. The RS TV warranty is a straight 5 year deal with no cash-back.

It's great if this works but you have to take care. RS prices can be higher in-store than on-line and although the stores will sell for the web price if you ask, it;s the store price JL will price-match with.

I called them today and they said they would match the online price. Result!
