    Hi

We have a national trust family membership which runs out in May 09. Could anyone tell us when we should renew our membership as we do not want to be left without any membership, but we also don't want to double up cover and end up paying for the last month twice over.

Also if we decide to join via national trust scotland are we allowed to use this all over the uk as we would using the english national trust.

    Thanks
    caris

My NT membership expires April 2009 and they sent me a letter a week or so ago asking me to renew with details so I expect you will get same letter mid May.

English NT gets nothing from this and they are just desperate for funds which is used for the upkeep of the NT properties so please search your conscience before joining NZ NT

The arrangement is reciprocal. English NT members are welcome in New Zealand.

If the English NT didn't want to be involved in these reciprocal arrangements they don't have to be!

And note they are so "desparate" they stoop pretty low when charging entry for non members. At many sites, they have 2 prices, but always charge the most expensive unless you ask for the cheaper one. (10% more expensive)

AND the most expensive entry also involves gift aid, so they make more anyway via the tax rebate.

This is a money saving site, and there is a lot of money to be saved by joining the NZ NT!

You should be sent your renewal by now, ATM they are giving away a free organiser bag if you sign up for payment by direct debit.

It may not apply to you but there is a pensioner membership that saves you around £12 is you are over 60, you have to ring and ask for it though.

NT Membership Department is on 0844 800 1895

If you dont have a conscience about saving money when you ring them, this number is cheaper: 01793817400 (ask for membership).

An interesting moral dilemma, probably should not have mentioned the pensioners membership.
I'll pay a visit to Calke Abbey at the weekend and have a ponder over a cream tea.

if you want to stay with the english one, remember to cancel it and take out a new one, you then get the extra discount. Quidco also have some good offers.

I tried cancelling and re- applying but the application was turned down, They said the offer was for first time members only.

So I joined English heritage instead.

we have been members of NZ historic places for 2 years and have never had to pay for parking in any NT property in the UK.

This is a fab offer ( found on MSE!) and if I did not join this way, then we would never go to any NT properties!!!
Well worth it. Join on line at New Zealand Historic Places and they send you the memberships through the post in approx 14 days.

There is the other side of the coin as well - we will be visiting from Australia and intend to join CADW (Welsh Heritage) for two years which will then give us free entry to all the CADW, English Heritage and Historic Scotland sites.

Surely the mere fact that money is going to ANY historic societies around the world and getting visitors who otherwise wouldn't visit (and spend money in the cafe/gift shop) is only a GOOD thing?? For us it means the difference of visiting a hand full of places and not spending a cent there, or visiting as many as possible and making it a big part of our stay, and daily spending money.

So does that make me a nasty cheapskate for joining the cheapest of the UK historical bodies (at an exchange rate that is $2AUD per one pound) or does it make me an eager sightseeing opportunist!

i agree with safiya - any money i can save is better for me

my morals will allow me to save myself a considerable sum over the uk NT prices by joining either NZ or Scottish NT

For me there is no moral dilema - more money saved means more for my kids
