Cheap base unit

My old compaq deskpro has packed up, however I'm fairly strapped for cash at the moment.

Any suggestions on where I'd find a cheap base unit ?
I plan on using all the peripherals from the old machine

I need something to run office and connect to the internet so it doesn't need to be anything too high spec
I am hoping to move to broadband in the new year so something new enough to handle that is my only stipulation

Thanks

Elaine

  • Some of the Dell machines might suit you. There are a few being discussed in the 'Grab it while you can' forum.

you could always get a 2nd hand or refurb pc. if you do this you'll prolly be able to re-use memory and hard drives etc aswell. There are lots of refurbished NEC (packard bell) computers around ~1ghz that you can find for £80-90 at computer fairs.

if the monitor you're using is anything less than 17" i'd say you should buy a new (2nd hand) monitor too. decent 17"s can be found for £25.

have a look at computerfairs.co.uk to find one near you.

I'm replacing a load of deskpros at the moment and have tons of spares. If you want to PM or post what model you have and the problem I can probably send you some free bits and talk you through fixing it...

    Just let me know...
    I see you baby....
