Paypal charges for unpaid items - £76 per time!!!!

Hello all,
I just had an awful bank statement. I tried to pay for 4 small things via paypal but didn't realize a big DD had pushed my bank account into the red. This meant the items were unpaid. They appear on the bank statement as D/D from paypal. For two unpaid items on the 25th (£7.99 and £3.19 respectively) I have been charged £76 and again on the 26th for unpaid items of (£2.49 and £10.50). Now, I take full responsibility for not having the funds but what charges! £152 pounds. I didn't know they could do that. I'm reeling in shock. To make it even more fun that pushed me over the bank overdraft in a big way so I got charged another £28 maintenance for an unarranged overdraft and got charged £31.60 for interest on the whole overdraft for going over the limit. OMG! Is there anything I can do to claw any of it back? I've emailed paypal and I'm waiting for a response.

Who has charged you, the bank for refusing the payments or paypal for having had the payments refused?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Agree with the above post. These sound like bank charges, and not ones levied by Paypal. Definitely, if you have never had charges on that account before, call your bank and explain the situation to them, and see if they'll cancel them. Worked for me when I was charged.

Happened to me. Twice. The first time, 10 times in one day (I was expecting a payment that had not been paid) I had used my card every one of those 10 times for less then £3 per item.
I did follow Martins advice, (it was my reason for joining the site actually) and did get the money back. But this was because I am in dire financial straits (not enough money to live on) so by law I had to have the money back. I made a mistake the second time it happened (its what happens when you life on a financial knife edge) and am still waiting. Definitely a good idea to to check out the posts on overdraft charges:

Hi there,
I have searched the paypal site to see if they do this and found nothing so it must be the bank then. I had no success getting charges back on a matter than was their mistake earlier this month and spoke to ombudsman who advised me to register them with the claim back Martin talks about so that will just depend on the court case. I guess I'll have to do that again here. Thank you for replying everyone. I appreciate your advice.
