I have had a lot of personal experience with the NHS and I can tell you it has improved no end. It’s still far from perfect but it’s a lot better than it was.

I have had some excellent treatment too but I was told that for heart surgery (new valve) it was usually nine months from when you first saw a consultant.

As it happens, the first consultant told me to go home "it's not desperate" so I dumped him and started making enquiries for myself. It's true what JOJO has said, you need to apply some pressure. A surgeon in London agreed to see me I am in M/c) only because I wanted a new procedure (didn't work) but while I was waiting a cancer was found and that was done in two weeks. Heart surgery 15 months later. The NHS is wonderful with a lot of very caring doctors. Unfortunately, a lot of people -mostly older ones - cannot imagine being pro-active when it comes to getting quicker treatment on the NHS.
