Ex Tennant still causing hassles

Greetings one and all.
Have a little bit of a problem but not quite sure how to sort out.
A little while ago before I moved in with my OH, she had a tenant, who was friends with both of us. I then moved in and things were going okay or so we thought. Not long after I moved in he found himself a girlfriend pretty soon she seemed to be spending a lot of time there and towards the end almost every night never even offering to pay any extra towards the rent or bills.
He then gives us notice to say he is going to be moving out, he only gives two weeks which I thought was a bit short but my OH let him off.
He moved out a couple of days later not paying any rent.
He then went and posted on Facebook and what horrendous landlords we were and how we had made his life for him and his girlfriend absolute hell, even though we let him get away with a lot more than most landlords, i.e. occasionally he would have his kids over and they would stay the night.
It has now got to the stage where we are not worried about the money although it would be nice to get some it is the hassles that we are going through now.
We still get letters for him, virtually all of them demanding money, and hassles from various phone calls asking his whereabouts and how can they get in contact with him, and knowing they think we are lying, just covering up or he is still there
What advice would you give me to stop these demands hassles, because one of the letters which we opened was almost at the stage of saying they would be sending bailiffs round. We have just got to the stage where me and the OH are financially standing on your own 2 feet and we don't want the bailiffs trying to enter the property, or the address credit blacklisted. Any help or advice would be welcome.
Sorry for the really long post but it is starting to stress the OH out quite a bit now and I just would like it sorted.

Presumably he left no forwarding address? You say he was known to you and your wife before he became your tenant - can you track him down from other people you know that might also known him and know his current whereabouts?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Same suggestion/advise from me. Try tracking him thru known contactsmaninthestreet wrote: »Presumably he left no forwarding address? If you have his forwarding address, you could simply forward all the letters to him and pass the address on to whoever calls round or phones re his debts. It would serve him right for causing you trouble, and after all, that is what you should be doing. I would also take him to small claims court for the money he owes. OK, he may get away without paying it, but he will have a ccj against him, which would hopefully make life less convenient for him. at least.
Check your credit files too, though it is individuals who get bad credit ratings, not addresses.0 -
if bailiffs arrive, show them your mortage deed/ Tenancy Agreement and some ID and they will then know that you are not the person they are chasing and hopefully they will not bother you again0

You need to get them to look elswhere either address or phone
If you don't have new address do you know where he works or where his kids live?0 -
just a thought, does he have contact info on facebook? :P0

and i believe as a lodger (hes not a tenant) he has no rights.... so you can throw him out after 1 day notice.. and presumably he can walk out with no notice too.
If you have a contract what does it say? If no contract.. then it isnt worth the paper its wrote on.
I presume as a lodger the extra income was declared to the tax man too?0 -
For the sake of 100-200 quid i'd just let it go and return to sender all mail sent to him (dont open it)... and as others suggested if baliffs come prove he aint living there anymore.0

My fella had baliffs round his house when he moved in due to previous tennants just prove that ure not him and explain hes moved and that should be fine. Cross out the addresses on letter and return to sender. I wouldnt worry about it too much yes its a pain but as long as ure not in debt i wouldnt worry. Maybe send him a message on facebook telling him that he has mail and ask for a forwarding address just dont disclose what the mail is0

Stop opening his mail - it's an offence - and just return to sender. Eventually it will stop coming.
