can you BT EGG with FD online?

Can anybody tell me whether I can BT my EGG card with my FD card online, i.e. can I go online with FD and pay off EGG debt without having to phone FD. If you can what do you go to on the FD site to do this?

Also looking at their T&C
2.6.1 A promotional balance transfer is a balance transfer which occurs within the first 6 months of this agreement amounting to £500 or more which is the first balance transfer to the credit card company concerned.
it looks like they will charge me if I try to do this more than once to EGG even in the promotional period, well assuming I did a second one of £15,000 to EGG and being lazy here can anybody tell me what they would charge for this. i.e. I want to know what the damage would be.

Re your first question: I did my BT by speaking to a person, but I think you can do it online. Log in to internet banking, click on the little letter 's' to the right of the credit card account, to go to the statement screen, then at the bottom of the screen, after 'print->' and 'increase limit->' comes 'balance transfer ->'. That should do the trick, although they might phone you to confirm it.

Re your second question: My reading of the Ts&Cs is that a second transfer to Egg would not be defined as a promotional balance transfer (my italics) and hence would be just a standard balance transfer and not qualify for 0%. So not just a fee to weigh up, but no 0% at all!

    I hope this helps,

The First Direct BT is a bit strange. When you ask to BT to say, Egg, they actually BT to your bank account, then set up another transfer to send it to Egg.

I was severely tempted to use the online facility to cancel the transfer to Egg since I wanted it to end up in my bank account, but in the end resisted the temptation. It is likely they do a double check to make sure it all worked ok.

So the money went Card -> Bank -> Egg -> Bank -> Savings!

    Happy Hero,

Sorry not to have answered your earlier queries, online access has been playing up. I'm fairly sure that I ended up doing my BT FD-Egg on the phone.

However you cannot do a second BT to the same card. They will not allow it. It has to be to a different card. So I suggest you do your biggest BT to Egg, once you know what that limit is.

what does it matter what my EGG limit is? I will just put it in credit by any amount.

Someone has mentioned to me that you cannot seem to put your EGG in credit by more than what your borrowing limit is, i.e. if £10,000 limit with EGG something will stop you putting more than this on as a credit, but on further reading I have found many who have surpassed this figure in crediting EGG. I dont know which to believe now. Is this what you are` talking about? And can you enlighten me any further regarding this?

I am one of those probably ultra cautious people.    I have only so far BTd up to my limit.    I have not as yet put a positive credit on the Egg Card.    As you say there seem to be a few people who have gone well beyond that and chanced it.   It doesn't seem as though anyone has come a cropper.

My thinking was that you could do a BT with Egg for the largest amount of your £25K and then perhaps channel the remainder through a second card, maybe Mint or one of those where you can pay directly into your bank account.    There are others with far more experience than me - Reaper seems to be quite on the ball.

    Happy,

I believe that if you have a £10K Egg Limit but BT £25K for example to Egg so that it's now £25K in CREDIT (rather than debt), then that's fine BUT you may have to do the SBT's into your current account in several goes because Egg may not allow you to BT more than your credit limit, i.e. you'll need to BT £10K, then a further £10K, then the final £5K.

    Hold on Martins Love child....

Do you mean if you have an egg limit of 10k and BT 25k from FD card then your egg card would be 25k credit, but you can effectively move 35k into your current account?

Albeit in various steps of 10k, 10k, 10k and 5k ...but you can move 35k?

    Am i right?

That's absolutely correct, Zain. You could move £35K no problem.

Additionally, other posters have reported receiving telephone calls from Egg following requests for BT's greater than £5K. This is simply to check that the BT is genuine and also to comply with money laundering laws.
