Using XP Reload CD

I have decided to crawl into the 21st century and get broadband, but since I have been having problems for the last few months after my computer shut down suddenly in a powercut, I have decided to use my Reload CD to start over first.
I have a couple of questions before I do it, firstly I bought a LCD monitor 18 months ago, will this be affected? I didn't use the CD it came with before I connected it ( I couldn't have used it, my old monitor had croaked!).
The dial up modem is not the one that came installed in the computer, after reloading XP do I just uninstall the old driver and install the new one from the modem CD?
The system will be going back to SP1, will programs like avast, spybot, ccleaner work? I don't fancy trying to download 6 years of Windows updates on dial up, I am worried about not having antivirus until I can get broaddband set up.
Finally, should I unplug my printer before I reload XP?
Thanks in advance!

see if you can get a friend on broadband to download this

and burn to a CD for you as it will do all the windows updates in one hit for you "offline" . I really would not run a XP SP1 machine connected to the internet as its a BIG security risk
Unplug everything from the PC
The monitor will just work from scratch without loading anything
you may need to reinstall the drivers for the modem
Avast will work on SP1Ex forum ambassador

When you say unplug everything, do you mean the monitor too?
I've just realised that the computer won't work without the monitor plugged in!0 -
take a backup of any important data (pics, music, documents etc) as it will be wiped when you reinstall xp.0

I've reloaded XP, everything seems to be working OK except that the font on Internet Explorer is too small, as is the task bar at the bottom of the screen. I have been in Accessibility Options to make them larger, I have tried View - Text Size and rolling the mouse wheel with the ctrl button held down but none of it worked ( but my desktop icons got bigger). Any suggestions? Also, I managed to get hold of a SP3 CD and have installed it, does that security centre thing come up every time you turn the computer on or is it because I don't have any antivirus installed yet?0

if you mean the screen that asks you if you want to turn on automatic updates (before you get to the desktop), then its only the once.I've reloaded XP, everything seems to be working OK except that the font on Internet Explorer is too small, as is the task bar at the bottom of the screen. if you mean the pop up by the clock telling you about the A/V, its been there since SP2. once you get an antivirus program installed it should disappear0 -
It was the pop up I meant, I hadn't seen it before because I've always had antivirus until now!0

if you don't have an antivirus program, download avira antivir from here (make sure you click download latest version)0

Right click on the desktop > properties > settings > move the slider up to more, stop when you reach the correct resolution for the monitor.
Once Antivirus is installed that popup will go away
