Camcorder through laptop

i need to connect a camcorder to my laptop so I can record a live feed from the camcorder onto the DVD writer on the laptop.

Anyone know if it is possible and if it is, what do I need.

I have a reasonably high spec brand new laptop.

The feed from the camcorder will have to travel about 60 feet to the laptop, do I need to boost the signal from the camcorder maybe.

Thanks in advance

Steve

I think its only possible using a firewire cable.

Not only do you need the connection ports, like mentioned by Scooter, firewire is one (check net for usage on this), but your laptop needs a firewire port - does it have one? There is also S-Video which you can use to capture, though you also need a card for that as well.
You also need video editing software. If you have WinXP, then it should have Movie Maker (I think its on SP2 only, not sure).

Don't spend five pounds to dry clean a shirt. Donate it to the charity shop instead. They'll clean it and put it on a hanger. Next morning buy it back for two pounds.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I have not purchased the camcorder yet. I will obviously buy one with the right connections (once I know what I need).

The laptop has SVHS and firewire sockets.
