Debenhams personal shopper (not)

Went shopping today for Bridesmaid dress for my DD with my sister and niece. My sister is registered disabled due to serious health problems which are not apparent at first sight but she regularly overheats and has palpatations. With this in mind I decided to use the personal shopper in Debenhams to fetch us some dresses for DD to try on while my sister sat down comfortably.

Asked an assistant if I could see the personal shopper who found her for us. I explained what I wanted and she just said the dresses are upstairs. Hello I knew that but I wanted her to get them for me etc. She had just walked off though. I said to my sister I would ring the manager to complain as they are always promoting the service. The first assistant I had seen overhead me and said she would get someone from children's wear to bring down the dresses. A lovely girl brought down 5 dresses for DD to try and then after DD had tried all 5 on the personal shopper appears to help! She then tried to tell me the dress wouldn't fit in July as it was a bit tight. I pointed out it was actually a bit loose and I had tightened it with the belt to get the proper effect.

Meanwhile why all we are trying on my sister couldn't sit comfortably in the waiting area with a drink as a group of 4 or 5 kids were sprawled over there with chocolate sweets. They were also running into the other changing room etc. It turns out these kids were known to the personal shopper - I suspect even her kids.

Anyway got the personal shopper to do a bit of work by finding shoes (failed) and ordering me a brand new dress (achieved).

Sounds like you have had a bad experience. At least you got the dress ordered in the end, see what the service is like when you go to pick it up! Dont think its on though the personal shopper having the kids running about though when she should be focusing her attention on the customers

I visited Debenhams today. Saw the head of childrens wear and asked her to pass on my thanks to the 2 staff who used their initiative and were helpful, as without them I would have walked away from the store. I also wanted to ensure that the PS didn't get any commission on the sale as a friend told me they do. Luckily she knew who they were. She asked me to speak to the manager (must be brownie points there) who took on board my comments.

Also when the dress comes in if it's after the mega days they will give me a discretionary discount = to the mega day. :)
