Help - Holiday Been Changed

Hi hope someone can offer some advice.

I booked a week in Marmaris for myself, daughter and her friend on 11th June, total price £719. The friend's mum and gran then booked as well on the same flights but different hotel.(They were worried about her first holiday away from family) We were advised soon after that the flight times had been changed which wasn't too much of a problem.

I have now just been advised that they are not using the hotel that we'd booked this season as they had forgotten to renew their operators license so we were being put in another hotel nearby. The problem is that it is one of the hotels I was looking at originally (because it was cheaper) but was advised by travel agent to go for the other one because it had much better reviews and better pool etc. Travel agent has said that I can get a full refund if I'm not happy with the move.

Problem is if I take the refund and book something else, the friends mum and gran are still gonna be on the original holiday without us.

Question is, do you think I can try to haggle a new deal such as all inclusive or even half board instead of the self catering we'd booked since we are now on worse flights and in a worse hotel?

Anything available at the hotel where friend's mum and gran are staying?

Not sure, just got the call when I got in from work today. Going in to see them tomorrow. Just thought I'd see if anyone else had any experience of getting any extras in a similar situation.

Thomson did something similar to me a couple of years ago. Kindly informed me by letter 4 days before leaving for the holiday.

I had booked into Icmeler but they sent us to Marmaris, didn't like it at all, far too much hassle from the street urchins (local tour reps, shopkeepers, taxi drivers..... everyone in fact)

Don't suppose they offered any compensation or upgrades?

Have a look at which hotels are available on their website.

They told me it was an upgrade but as I wasn't going to the original place I booked, I had nothing to compare against.

I wasn't overly impressed with what we ended up in but the kids were happy (so I was too).

They offered a full refund in the letter but with only a few days to go it wasn't an option (and I think that is deliberate by them knowing you can't rebook with such little notice)

usually you will will get something like vouchers which can be used against trips in resort when booked through a rep... it used to be around £40 an adult for this sort of thing.
another option is accepting a different hotel but asking them to cover taxi costs if it is further from the one your family is in.
finally try looking at their broshure to see the other properties at sc level as this will give you an idea of what you could be swapped to if they have availability
    good luck!
