Not sure what type of property you live in but my sister lives in a Shared ownership property (part owned by the Housing Association) in MK. She rang them to check whether she could install a dish and they said that although it was 'not allowed' as dictated by the lease that they would not object or take any action if she did have one installed.

If you are in a similar situation it might be worth ringing whoever deals with that side of things.

    Thanks for all your thoughts.

Indeed we are screwed in MK for NTL Digital - as it's the only option for some it's a bit naughty of NTL!
I don't have a window in the garage... so that's a bit of a pain.

I said that I would dismantle and move when I moved, and make good any holes that were left. I still received a resolute "no" (meanies)

Unfortunately my balcony faces North! My only option is to put the dish on my bedroom side of the building, but I don't have anything to suspend it from. Thanks for that suggestion (I shall recommend that to anyone else thinking of doing something similar!)

Mine is a shared ownership too - which Housing Association is your sister with? She's very lucky that they're so accommodating. Mine point blank refused my request, and said that they'd physically remove it from the building if I went ahead and put it up (I protested that other people around here - also Shared Owners - had already put a dish up. I don't want to enter into a year's contract with Sky only to have the HA remove (and possibly dispose of) the equipment... I know they're legally not allowed to (it's Sky's property after all!), but I wouldn't put it past them...

It appears that it might not be possible after all, unless I put the dish inside my bedroom - which isn't viable!! If only Sky dishes were flat and small like those old diamond-shaped dishes that were around in the early 90's (for a telephone service, was it? I know they died a death!)..

have a look here - a clear sat dish!

They also have an strange looking sat antenna that you can mount beside your tv antenna.

Google for "discrete sky dish" and see what comes up. Are you able to mount inside a loft? You can get higher gain dishes to overcome the loss of having to pass through a roof.
