I wanna... put a Sky dish in my garage!

Is this possible? I live in a flat and the leasehold states that I can't fix anything to the exterior of the building.
I pondered about getting around this as I have a garage underneath my flat - is it physically possible to install a Sky dish inside my garage to get around the lease (I own the garage!) restrictions??
Would the signal be too poor because of the brickwork?

I'm no expert but I don't think you would get the signal, can't you get freeview instead or was it all the movies etc you wanted?I haven't got one!0

I already have Freeview via an aerial temporarily attached to my balcony(!)... it's really for Sports and Movies, and the other channels that Freeview doesn't offer (Living, etc)0

Cable, do you get that in MK?I haven't got one!0

I have worked on several house's where the satalite dish is actually in the garden, attached to a small post, could be worth looking into? What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
The only cable we get is via NTL and they "don't do digital" in this area - so I'm not paying for something that'll eventually be outdated (and actually works out more expensive than Sky!)
(NTL have a monopoly in MK - there's a bylaw that states that we're not supposed to put aerials on our roof!).
I guess a post might be a good idea... not sure how viable it is!0 -
You can pick up satellite through glass. The problems you'd face is needing a window facing the approximate position of the satellite (east I think) plus you'd have a dish in the room. Is there a window in the garage, does it face east? You have probaly done this already but have you checked recently that NTL haven't upgraded to a digital service?
Good luck.0 -
Sorry indiegirl - just did a search and it seems that MK is screwed as far as a digital upgrade is concerned.0

Have you try to ask the leaseholder that u will dismantle the dish and cable once u move? Or they are having none of it. Worth a try.0

You say you are not permitted to fix to the exterior of the building, depending on which way your balcony faces ( check compass bearing of the sattelite ) could you not set up your dish on a stand or tripod on your balcony ?
A local fabrication shop could soon make it if you are not capable yourself and you could anchor it by using 56 pound weights ( from a scrapyard ) or concrete blocks. As it would have no physical fixings to the building and would be on your balcony technically you should not be in breach of the lease ( check small print first ) !
