Component Transfer Error

Hello,
I have sorted out a new PC for my mum - nice and squeaky clean with a fresh install of XP etc on.

My mum has noticed that she has no sound. I have checked that I have the plugs in the right socket etc but then found a CD for the monitor which is the software for the monitor. I didn't install it at the time as I wasn't what the CD was for and everything appeared to be working ok.

I have tried to install the drivers/software from the disk but it comes up with a dialogue box saying Conponment Transfer Error, Component 2k and XP, Error Catastrophic Failure. I thought that this might be a damaged disk so I went to the HP website to get the drivers direct but it comes up with the same error.

Is there a setting I need to change to get it to install or does anyone have any idea what is wrong. Please note, that everything else is ok on the PC and monitor just no sound - not even the basic starting up of windows one.

Thank you for any help.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
The monitor driver disc won't resolve the problem. Have a look in device manager and see if the soundcard is recognised.

If it is not and you don't have the disc see if Windows update has the driver.

If the soundcard is installed check the volume levels in control panel.

hm, try going to device manager .....

    control panel/administration tools/computer management/device manager

i would uninstall the sound video and game controllers and then the monitors part, then shut down and restart the pc and wait until it reinstalls these devices.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

I have had a look at the device manager and the only things that have the yellow question mark is again the -other devices, (includes the headings) PCI Device, PSC 2170 Series and Speed touch 330 (not worried about the speedtouch as I know this is the old virgin modem that is plugged in and no longer needed).

Do you still suggest that I unstall something? What do I uninstall?

The monitor and sound, video etc was all ok. (i.e. no question mark)
