Depends how much protection you want, or rather who you want to protect it from. The big companies haven't successfully found a way to protect discs: Most protection can be bypassed with just a little basic knowledge or a quick search on google. Only complete novices or technophobes will have trouble copying a CD or DVD, even then if they want to they can easily find a way. Sorry!0

As Alltheloginsaretakenappar said, it's exteremely difficult to prevent CD/DVD copying. Nearly all methods used by commerical software have been cracked.
What is it you're trying to protect? You may be able to use some sort of keycode, demo limitation or activation to prevent mass reproduction and use.
These methods aren't perfect, but rather than tryng to prevent distribution, which is nearly impossible with the internet, try protecting the software itself.0 -
This may not suite your needs.....
Use winrar to .rar up the files you are going to copy to CD/DVD. When you rar the files up you can password the rar file.
There are some progs that claim to crack rar passwords but I've found if you use a good number of a-z characters and some numbers with other characters such as @,^,#,!,(,) etc etc it makes these password crackers pretty useless.
Better than nowt I suppose.....0 -
The protection you want to use will come down to what you actually want to put on the CD/DVD. There is no easy solution.
Most (all?) of the off the shelf protections will stop the casual user but not those determined to get the material off the disc.
Dongles can be good if used properly but are not the bete noire they used to be - the dongle mentioned above - 'Everkey' - doesn't seem to have attracted that much attention yet but pretty much all the others are open. (google for Woodman and Fravia)
The floppy disc version, everlock, was pretty much completely made redundant in about 2001/2 when utilities to copy the key disk became available. Also worth remembering that not all machines have floppy drives these days. They promised the earth...and delivered mud. Technically though it did meet the spec.0
