ATM Dispute

Not if the person reviewing the case has said "the machine balanced so we won't reimburse".and if the machine had went wrong then the audit trail would have shown that it hadnt paid out the full amount and the OP would have got their money back.
The set of circumstances describes clearly leaves room for doubt.
If the bank can categorically say that the machine didn't close immediately after the transaction, then I side with the bank.
The audit log will list all transactions and electronic events such as opening and closing.
If the ATM has closed itself for no obvious reason it suggests some sort of mechanical or electronic fault. Which could easily mean the money wasn't dispensed.
Any ombudsman, court or independent complaint reviewer looking at a case where a withdrawal was requested and the machine closed seconds later would, on the balance of probability, say that the customer did not receive the money and could not be expected to stand next to an ATM waiting for it to reopen.0 -
This happened to me when I withdraw £90 from my Lloyds account using the tesco cash machine. Bank says the machine was correct but I didnt get my money and no-one was interested in listening to me about it either. Not tesco, not Lloyds or RBS whose machine it was.
I did everything I possibly could on that day. I stood at the machine in case it opened later and the money appeared for nearly an hour and phoned the helpline number on the ATM who told me it was safe to walk away - the money would more than likely be refunded the same day.
I even reported it to customer services in Tesco but they werent interested at all.
At the end of it all, I lost £90 through no fault of my own.0 -

It is not impossible that someone else had actually been overpaid and they would be very unlikely to complain had that been the case!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

that information would not necessarily be available to the person who is responsible for balancing the machine - I know that when I was responsible for balancing a large number of machines the only info I had was the total amount withdrawn per day and this was not broken down into each individual transaction.3 stone down, 3 more to go0
