£12 phone call

id recently spent time in hospital (spine operations) and on arriving home a letter arrived from my catalogue, my husband left it for a few days as i was too ill, i had a phone call a couple of days later saying i was late with my payment and could i pay it now? i told them sorry im bedridden but will get my daughter to pay it later in the afternoon when she came round, found the letter and my daughter paid it.
however the catalogue company rang again the day after to remind me, i told them id paid and had the receipt here in my hand, they then said, its just that when we ring you up to remind you we charge you £12 !! so thats another £12 today! what?! these charges are extortionate!
does anyone know if theres anyway i can claim them back?

They will not be able to justify charging you for a call the day AFTER you paid.

It may take some time for the payment to be credited to your account but normally in these cases they will leave a couple of days between the calls if you have said that you are just about to make or have just made a payment.

Surely if you can prove you were bedridden(hospital letter, G.P Letter), you can write to them requesting the first charge to be credited.
