To start with you need to obtain your credit report. This can be done easily.
You also need to bear in mind that all appliactions are recorded (as searches) on your credit report and this can have a negative effect on your credit score - can be seen as desperate!
You've tried cap1 but, you even got refused for the secured credit card?
A few others to try are Vanquis and Barclaycard (Inital).
I've found it easier to start with a store card eg: HMV (branded) Style Stor Card - obtained from in-store.
After awhile then apply for credit cards but, I fear your going to have to be happy with high APR cards for a while.
I have a Vanquis, Barclaycard (Inital) and a JJB (branded) Mastercard - all high APR but, find the Barclaycard the better one but, the Vanquis is good also as if you have a basic bank account you often don't get a cheque book, where Vanquis give you cheques (slightly higher APR for use) but, you might need one.
Depending on your bank and your personal circumstances (salary, savings ...etc) you could apply for a full current account - this helps. If you get refused wait 6 months and apply again.
Hope this helps.Proudly Banking & Saving With:

Hi Fedz, can I ask who is the issuing bank for your JJB mastercard. I have a capital one, barclaycard and vanquis. I clear in full absolutely every month, and have done so since having each card. I travel on business a lot, and also use cards to fund stock for my business - I need decent limits.
Barclaycard recently upped my limit from £260 to £400 and have £750 on vanquis and £800 on capital one. Requested a limit increase on the other two this month only to be told that customers can no longer request a limit increase They automatically review each account and will notify by mail when an increase is given.
If your JJB issuer is lenient on previous history (my file for the last three years is impeccable) just some old cr*p from 5-6 years ago keeps cropping up and prevents me from any decent limtis with mainstream operators. Six years is a long time waiting for this hysterical (should I say historical) to drop off the file.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -
thanks for thie info people,
Why do i need to obtain a credit report on me? I now my credit history is the worst it can be at this moment in time, so what do i need to look for on it?
Cheers again

My OH got turned down by Capital One, so taking advice from this board, he applied for his credit report. Although he had been discharged from bankruptcy for about 9 months his credit report still stated him as bankrupt, and a credit card that cleared with his bankruptcy was still showing as a default. Had to send of his certificate of discharge to all the credit report agencies, and to the cc company, and they are in the process of amending his report...hopefully next time he applies he will be accepted.0
